Its climate is continental- moderately cool and humid with a marked difference between the average summer and winter temperatures (-4 °C in January, 18 °C in July).The average annual precipitation is 660 mm (26 inches), with a maximum in the summer.
Lvov occupies an area of 171 sq. kilometers and has a population of about 735,000, of which 70 per cent are Ukrainians, and the remainder Russians, Belorussians, Poles, Jews, Armenians and other nationalities. Lvov is also the administrative center of “Lviv Oblast” (province) in western Ukraine.
