Archeological researches have found that there was a settlement on the place of Lvov beginning at the fifth centre. The first mention of Lvov is in Galician-Volhynian Chronicle dated 1256. According to the most popular version Lvov was founded in the XIII century by King Danylo Halytskiy and was named in honor of his son “Lev”. According to another version Lvov was founded by the son himself.
Due to Lvov’s favorable location on the crossroads of trade routes – Lvov was built along “Volyn Road” on the trade route between the Black Sea via Lvov to Baltic, Lvov has developed rapidly, and quickly became
the center of trade and commerce for the region. In 1272, Lviv (as named in Ukraine) became the chief city of the Galician principality.
Lvov was captured..
